Optimize an SVG

Design programs write a lot of extras into an SVG: comments, metadata, long numbers. Kleurstaal takes them out with SVGO, in your browser, and shows before and after side by side.

Your files stay on your device

Questions

Good to know

  1. Does my drawing change?

Normally not visibly. Numbers are rounded to the number of digits you choose; for very small drawings, set the precision higher. Always compare before and after.

  2. Why aren’t my IDs kept?

SVGO shortens IDs or removes unused ones. If you refer to them from CSS or JavaScript, switch on Keep IDs.

  3. Is my file uploaded?

No. SVGO runs in your browser. Your SVG never leaves your device.

How it works

Optimize an SVG in three steps

  1. Paste or open your SVG

Paste the code, drop an .svg file on the text box or open it with the button.

  2. Choose the settings

The default is safe. If you want to keep IDs for CSS or scripts, switch that on.

  3. Check and download

Compare before and after, and download the smaller version or copy the code.
